From the Garden

We’re in the middle of a surge of tomatoes and zucchini and though I’m scrambling to find new recipes to use them all, I totally love eating fresh from the garden.

Upside Down Jam

I woke up my first morning in Montreal to find a bunch of jars like this one in the kitchen. I guess my dad lets his jam cool upside down.

More photos from the trip are coming up soon.

Taking Off

I’m heading out of town and won’t be reachable by phone. If you need to get ahold of me, feel free to email (claire@clairemarika.com).

Let’s just hope the tail section of my plane will be in better shape than this one.

Fish Tacos & Brazilian Lemonade

Ok, so I know this is supposed to be a photography blog and not a food blog, but I’ve been enjoying spending time at home during this little break so much that I couldn’t resist letting a little of my personal life seep onto my work blog.

This is possibly my favorite summer dinner, second only to tapenade on garden cucumber slices and gazpacho.

The fish tacos are Nie’s, and the lemonade is Azucar’s.

Homemade Sourdough

It’s kind of my new favorite thing.

The minute I read the recipe in this book, I started my sourdough starter, and was pretty flabbergasted when it actually worked. I haven’t had much success with bread in the past, but this is some of the best bread I’ve ever had (if I may say so myself).

The book is great too.

The Inside

It’s still a work in progress, but we like it.

More pictures to come when we get things decorated and furnished (our couches came this week!)

In the garden

we’ve got potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries, green beans, purple beans, bell peppers, lettuce, peas, butternut squash, zucchini, cucumbers, cantaloupe, and herbs.

It’s kind of my pride and joy.

chicks

These ladies like to wake us up early on saturdays, but the fresh eggs are totally worth it.

welcome to the neighborhood

I recently decided to pull out my old 35mm film camera and start using it to photograph everyday life. It was an honorable endeavor, but since my everyday life has consisted pretty much solely of work, I haven’t had a whole lot to photograph (besides what I was already photographing work, which is a different story).

Any time not spent working has been devoted to setting up the new apartment my husband and I moved into; so that’s what I’ve been shooting. It’s been an awesome change for us (from teeny tiny studio to two bedroom duplex), and I’m thrilled to have some more space to decorate, but things have been moving extremely slowly.

Two months in and we’re just now getting around to buying couches.

Anyway, I’ll be posting a few installments of the film from our new neighborhood and home.
