Deer Valley Resort Weddings
A Photographer's Guide to Park City's Most Iconic Mountain Lodge Venue
📍 Park City, Utah | Deer Valley Resort
If there's a venue that defines the classic Park City mountain wedding, it's Deer Valley. Exposed timber beams, vaulted ceilings, fireside dining, and mountain views in every direction — it's a place that has been doing this for a long time and does it very well. I've photographed weddings here across all seasons, and what strikes me every time is how timeless it all feels. Deer Valley isn't chasing trends. It's leaning into exactly what it is, and what it is happens to be exceptional.

The Setting
Deer Valley Resort sits in the hills above Park City, and the landscape here is distinctly different from the canyon venues in Little Cottonwood or Big Cottonwood. The mountains are wooded and rolling rather than craggy and dramatic — more forested ski slopes and open meadows than jagged granite peaks. It's a softer, warmer kind of mountain scenery, and it suits the venue's aesthetic perfectly.
Three on-mountain venues sit at different elevations, each with its own character. All of them share Deer Valley's signature design language: exposed log construction, vaulted ceilings, fireplaces, and that particular blend of rustic and refined that the resort has always been known for.
The Venue Spaces
Empire Canyon Lodge
This is the venue I've worked at most at Deer Valley, and it's the one I'd point most couples toward first. At 8,300 feet at the base of the Daly Chutes, it sits apart from the main resort in a setting that feels rooted in the mountains without being difficult to access. The lodge has five distinctive spaces totaling over 7,000 square feet — slate and granite fixtures, cedar walls, and vaulted ceilings — with the kind of scale that works beautifully for both large and intimate groups. Even if your guest count is modest, the space doesn't feel cavernous or empty.
The flow of the venue is one of its strengths. The main downstairs area handles dinner and dancing. The upstairs works beautifully for cocktail hour, with lounge areas and fireplaces that naturally draw people in. And then there's the fireside experience — one of the most memorable things I've seen at any wedding venue in Utah.
Deer Valley's fireside dining involves melting large wheels of cheese by the fire, then gathering the melted puddles to serve to guests alongside charcuterie, pickles, and potatoes. It's a raclette-style experience that feels completely native to this mountain lodge setting. Guests love it, it photographs wonderfully, and it's the kind of thing people talk about long after the wedding.
For ceremonies, Empire Canyon is versatile across seasons. Summer and fall weddings can use the lawn, patio, or a meadow location partway up the mountain that feels beautifully remote. Winter ceremonies move inside, which works well given the warmth and character of the interior. Some couples combine Empire Canyon with a Cushing's Cabin ceremony — loading the ski lift up to the cabin for vows, then returning to Empire for the reception.

Silver Lake Lodge
Silver Lake Lodge sits mid-mountain at 8,100 feet at the base of Bald Mountain. It's the largest of the three venues, accommodating up to 300 guests, with Deer Valley's signature exposed timber design at an even grander scale. The main space is large and open with big windows, and a beautiful back deck and lawn area works well for outdoor ceremonies in good weather.
The feature that makes Silver Lake truly unique is the option to host your ceremony up the mountain, accessed by chairlift. Guests load the lift, ride up to a meadow area with sweeping Deer Valley views, and take their seats for the ceremony. The wedding party and couple process from the lift itself once everyone is seated — no hidden staging area, just a natural and memorable arrival. After the ceremony, everyone rides back down for cocktail hour and reception at the lodge.
It's a fun experience if your group is up for it. The lifts can be slowed for guests who need extra time loading, and the staff handles the logistics smoothly. Just go in knowing it adds a layer of coordination and make sure your guests are comfortable with a chairlift.

Cushing's Cabin
Cushing's Cabin sits at 9,100 feet atop Flagstaff Mountain, accessible by chairlift or shuttle. It's the most intimate option at Deer Valley, with room for up to 80 guests inside and generous outdoor space around it. The cabin itself has that same log and beam Deer Valley character, warm and beautiful, in a setting that feels tucked into the mountain in a way the other venues don't.
The feeling up here is different from other mountaintop venues like Snowbird's Summit — less rocky and exposed, more wooded and peaceful. You're high up with beautiful views, but the landscape around you has trees, vegetation, and a softer quality to the scenery. It's elevated and beautiful without feeling stark.
I've shot outdoor ceremonies at Cushing's Cabin in summer and the setting is lovely. The open areas around the cabin work well for portraits with mountain and meadow views. And as I mentioned above, Cushing's pairs naturally with Empire Canyon for couples who want the chairlift ceremony experience but have a reception group larger than the cabin can hold.

Every Deer Valley venue has strong portrait options within a few steps of the main event spaces. Slope views, wooded areas with pine and aspen, grassy fields, mountain backdrops — the variety is consistent across all three locations. You don't need to go far to find something beautiful.
My favorite moments at Deer Valley tend to happen in the transitions — the chairlift arrivals, guests wandering between spaces, the fireside gathering upstairs. The lodge atmosphere naturally creates warmth and movement that I love to work with.

The Deer Valley Experience
Deer Valley is famous for its service, and that reputation is well earned. The culinary team consistently delivers, the coordination is thorough, and the staff takes genuine care of couples and guests from start to finish. Wedding packages include overnight accommodations, planning, setup and teardown, in-house catering, a wedding cake, bar service, and lighting and sound equipment. Discounted group lodging and a full range of resort activities — skiing, hiking, mountain biking, spa services — round out the wedding weekend experience.
Who Is Deer Valley For?
Deer Valley is for the couple who wants the classic, timeless Park City mountain wedding. Not modern and minimal like Snowbird, not a garden or a barn — just the mountain lodge experience done at the highest level. Exposed wood, cozy fireplaces, excellent food, attentive staff, and views of wooded ski slopes in every direction.
It's also a natural fit for destination weddings. Guests have everything on-site: lodging, dining, the spa, and year-round outdoor activities. The resort handles an enormous amount of the logistics, which takes real pressure off couples who are coordinating guests from out of town.
If Deer Valley is a place that already means something to you — if you ski here, if you've celebrated here before, if Park City is part of your story — getting married here will feel exactly right.
